Mental Health Therapist (Spanish-English Bilingual)

Job description

We are seeking a part-time Bilingual Mental Health Therapist who will provide assessment, evaluation, and treatment of client participating in Project BHEAM: Behavioral Health Equity Across Maryland. This is a Maryland Department of Health (MDH)-funded initiative aimed at expanding access to mental health services for limited English proficiency Spanish speaking clients. The Mental Health Therapist will provide care for BHEAM clients at community sites, and Johns Hopkins TAP partner clinics, such as Esperanza Center.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive psychological evaluation, treatment planning and implementation for limited English proficiency Spanish speaking clients at community sites.
  • Provide direct clinical care for clients at the time of initial evaluation for diagnostic assessment, urgent and walk-in care, and triage.
  • Documentation of psychiatric issues and needs identified during counseling sessions.
  • Establish goals and objectives to meet the psychological needs of clients in collaboration with other members of the clinical care team.
  • Conduct ongoing counseling sessions as deemed clinically appropriate.
  • Assist in providing and/or coordinating the clinical activities of the Asylee Women Enterprise Trafficking Survivors Advocacy Program (TSAP) clients
  • Develop brief mental health assessments and triage algorithms that can be implemented by a Community Mental Health Worker (CMHW) in community settings and assist in supervising one CMHW.
  • Work collaboratively with, and provide leadership for, a multidisciplinary health care team to optimize team performance and client outcomes, including case managers/advocates and community health workers.
  • Maintain resource network for the purpose of referrals and consults that impact treatment progress of the client.
  • Provide client education in all aspects of mental health, including how to cope with issues specific to the migration experience and uses of psychiatric medications.
  • Collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to achieve stated goals for enhanced mental health, and reduction and abstinence of substance use.
  • Participate in relevant training, clinical supervision, conferences, and multidisciplinary client care.
  • Maintain and provide HEAL with the appropriate documentation for the reports needed for the OVC grant, which fund the program, on a monthly and quarterly basis.
