Cindy Moriarty

Director General, Health Programs And Strategic Initiatives at Health Canada | Santé Canada

Cindy Moriarty has extensive work experience in various roles and organizations.

From 2009 onwards, they worked at Health Canada where they served as the Director General for Health Programs and Strategic Initiatives. Cindy'sresponsibilities included overseeing funding programs related to health initiatives such as organ and tissue donation, blood safety, military health research, and compensation for thalidomide survivors. Cindy also managed the Drugs Programs Division as part of the government's anti-drug strategy. In addition, they implemented system changes and capacity building initiatives to improve the delivery of funding programs.

Prior to their role at Health Canada, Moriarty worked as the A/Executive Director at the Official Language Community Development Bureau from 2011 to 2013. Cindy also served as the Director of the Program Management Division at Health Canada from 2009 to 2013, where they managed funding programs for women's health research, international health partnerships, and blood safety research.

Before joining Health Canada, Moriarty was a board member at Family Services Ottawa from 2008 to 2014.

Cindy also has significant volunteer experience, serving as a board director and Vice President for Family Services Ottawa. Cindy held various leadership positions in organizations such as Planned Parenthood of Ottawa-Carleton, the Health & Social Services Advisory Committee to the City of Ottawa, and the District Health Council of Ottawa-Carleton, among others.

Earlier in their career, Moriarty worked at Health Canada as the Director of the Women's Health Bureau, where they led policy and research activities and managed the closure of the Bureau. Cindy also held positions as the Assistant Director of Portfolio Affairs and as the Manager of the Primary Health Care Transition Fund.

In the past, they held managerial roles in the federal government as well, where they managed interchange assignments. Cindy also worked at CUSO as the Director for the Canada Region, overseeing domestic operations and supporting international partners in various areas.

Prior to that, Moriarty was a Senior Policy Consultant at the Social Planning Council of Ottawa, where they led policy development and advocacy efforts on socio-economic issues. Cindy was also a Constituency Assistant at Ottawa Centre.

Cindy'searliest work experience was at the Rape Crisis Centre, where they served as the Executive Coordinator and managed all aspects of the organization's operations.

Cindy Moriarty completed their high school education at Bonn American School from 1969-1972. Cindy then attended Canterbury High School from 1972-1975 to obtain their Grade 13 Diploma. Later, from 1976-1978, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Carleton University.
