Karen Johnson has a diverse work experience starting from 1991 when they worked in the co-chairman's office at the Republican National Committee. Karen then went on to work as a vice president at Porter Novelli from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, they joined the US Department of Education as an Assistant Secretary until 2005. From 2005 to 2009, they served as a Senior Vice President at valente and associates. Later, they worked as a Senior Advisor at madison education from 2009 to 2014. In 2009, Karen also began their role as President at 2kConsulting, specializing in government affairs for education and not-for-profit organizations. Additionally, they worked as a Director of Outreach and Federal Affairs, Chief Communications Officer at HealthCorps. Karen also fulfilled a communications role at HealthCorps from 2010 to 2016. In 2010, Karen became a Senior Advisor at Potomac Strategic Development Co. LLC. More recently, in 2013, they founded PawsGo, an innovative website and app focused on health and wellness for dogs and their owners.
Karen Johnson attended Appalachian State University from 1980 to 1984, where they studied Communications. Karen later returned to the same university to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Communication and Media Studies.
