Denzil Ferreira

Senior Mobile Engineer / Android Lead at HealthRhythms

Denzil Ferreira has been working in the technology industry since 2011. Denzil began their career as a Ubicomp Research Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, followed by a Visiting Post-Doctoral Ubicomp Research Scientist role at the University of Cambridge. From 2014 to 2015, they worked as a Visionary R&D Scientist at Haltian Oy, and then as an Android Developer for SDK Core Team at IndoorAtlas Inc. in 2016. In 2017, they became an Advisory Board Member for the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge at UCLA Health. In 2018, they were awarded a 5-year research fellowship from the Academy of Finland to pursue SENSATE's project with UCLA Depression Grand Challenge. In 2020, they took on a Software Designer role at Solita, and in 2022, they became Senior Mobile Engineer / Android Lead and Mobile Software Architect at HealthRhythms. As a Mobile Software Architect, they help HealthRhythms investigate novel approaches to tackle the challenges of mental health. Since January 2018, they have been a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oulu, leading the Community Instrumentation & Awareness (CIA) research group, and part of the Faculty's Recruitment Committee.

Denzil Ferreira obtained a Major in Computer Science from Universidade da Madeira between 2001 and 2007. Denzil then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Software Engineering from the same university between 2007 and 2009. In 2009, they obtained a Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University, and in 2011 they obtained a Doctor of Technology in Computer Science (Ubiquitous and Mobile Computing) from the University of Oulu. In 2013, they obtained a certification in Computing for Data Analysis from Coursera.
