Director Of Community Health Education at Healthy Futures of Texas

Bethany Luis, MPH, CHES has a diverse work experience in the field of public health. Bethany is currently the Director of School District Health Initiatives at Healthy Futures of Texas since September 2021. Prior to this, they worked at The Children's Shelter - Family Tapestry Division as the Director of Community Engagement from December 2018 to July 2021. In this role, they collaborated with the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) to implement agency strategic goals, recruitment campaigns, and community awareness initiatives. Bethany also developed and implemented foster care and kinship recruitment plans, identified service gaps, and worked with key stakeholders to develop solutions. Additionally, they collaborated with the CPRO to brand and market Family Tapestry through social media, campaigns, and website creations.

Before their role at The Children's Shelter, Bethany worked at Healthy Futures of Texas as a Program Manager - Health Education from January 2017 to December 2018. Prior to that, they were the Youth Education Program Coordinator from August 2014 to December 2016. In these positions, they coordinated and implemented grant-funded educational programs, managed budgets, supervised and recruited staff, and collaborated with schools, agencies, and organizations for sexual health education programs. Bethany also conducted trainings and facilitated various curricula tailored for youth. Bethany obtained certifications in several evidence-based sexual health education curricula.

Bethany's early work experience in the public health sector started at Texas Christian University as a Research Assistant from September 2012 to October 2014. Bethany worked on a randomized-control study that measured adherence to antiretroviral medications in HIV-positive incarcerated individuals. Bethany gained experience working in state jails and prisons across Texas, primarily in Harris County.

Bethany Luis, MPH, CHES has a strong educational background in health promotion and behavioral science. Bethany obtained their Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology, General at Baylor University from 2008 to 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Bethany has also obtained several certifications. Bethany is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc, which they obtained in November 2015. Bethany also holds certifications in CPR and First Aid from the American Red Cross, acquired in March 2014. Furthermore, Bethany has recently participated in the Education Leadership Development Program, Class of 2021, offered by Leadership SAISD, completing it in May 2021.
