Cal Cates

Cal Cates is the Executive Director of Healwell, where they focus on advancing human-centered care in healthcare settings, particularly through palliative-trained massage therapy. Since founding Healwell in 2009, Cal has emphasized collaboration and advocacy for equity and inclusion within health care. They previously served as the President and Founding Director of the Society for Oncology Massage and as a contractor at Children's National Medical Center. In addition to their leadership roles, Cal facilitates workshops on racial equity and privilege, prompting participants to explore the somatic roots of their behavior. Cal's educational background includes a certification in massage therapy from the Potomac Massage Training Institute and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Women's Studies from Iowa State University.
