Herman Myburgh

Co-founder & Scientific Advisor at hearX Group

Herman Myburgh has been working in the Computer Engineering department of the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria since 2009. Herman started as a Teaching Assistant in 2009, and has since held the roles of Lecturer (2010-2013), Senior Lecturer (2014-2019), and Associate Professor. During this time, they have taught and supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students in Software Engineering, Computer Networks, Computer Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Communications.

In 2015, Herman co-founded the hearX Group, where they serve as the Scientific Advisor. The company has developed world first clinical smartphone hearing test solutions, which are used in 36 countries. The aim of the company is to create sustainable, smart solutions for hearing health for everyone.

Since 2013, Herman has also been consulting for various companies on a vast array of technologies, such as vehicle tracking (2013-2016).

Herman Myburgh completed their PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria in 2013. Prior to this, they earned a B.Eng and M.Eng in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the same university, which they completed between 2003 and 2009.
