Freddy Farah

Research Scientist at Heirloom

Freddy Farah has had a diverse work experience. In 2018, they were the President of the University of Pennsylvania Men's Rugby team, where they were responsible for reserving fields, scrimmages, referees, transportation, and hotels for the team, managing a budget of over $20,000, and communicating on behalf of the team with the Ivy League, USA Rugby, and Penn Rec. In 2019, they were an IT Help Desk Associate at The Wharton School, where they provided technical support to faculty members in person, online, and over the phone, suggested products to fit employees' desired specifications, and performed network, operating system, and software installations on university devices. Also in 2019, they were an Electron Microscope Trainer at the University of Pennsylvania's Singh Center for Nanotechnology, where they trained students, faculty, and industry researchers on various electron microscopes, wrote Python programs comparing live SEPTA GPS data to electromagnetic interference in sensitive lab areas, and built programs for Raspberry Pi to collect and send data from the facility's equipment. In 2020, they were a Research Assistant in the Romero Group at West Virginia University, where they wrote content and code interactive widgets for a six-chapter Python Jupyter Notebook course on crystallography, wrote functions for a Python library for pre- and post-processing of electronic structure data, and tested, trained, and edited edge detection and machine learning algorithms for forensic science. In 2021, they were a Physics Division Intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where they worked in the High Pressure Physics Group studying how materials behave at the extreme pressures and temperatures of the inner earth, created finite element simulations of laser-heated diamond anvil cell (LHDAC) experiments using Python and FlexPDE, and built simulations for dynamic high-velocity shock experiments. Freddy is currently a Research Scientist at Heirloom, starting in 2022.

Freddy Farah attended the University of Pennsylvania from 2018 to 2021, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts - BA in Physics, concentrating in Physical Theory and Experimental Technique.
