Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE)
Nelli Jalkanen is a Doctoral Researcher at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) since March 2022, focusing on disease modeling of neurological and mitochondrial diseases using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. Previously, Nelli worked as a Medical Secretary at HUS Helsingin yliopistollinen sairaala and as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of Helsinki, where research involved various aspects of neuroscience and psychobiology. Additional experience includes roles as a Research Assistant at the University of Dundee, providing support in experimental design and literature analysis, and as a Community Support Worker for the British Red Cross. Nelli holds a PhD in Human/Medical Genetics from the University of Helsinki, an MSc in Translational Medicine with a specialization in Neuroscience & Psychobiology, and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Dundee.

HiLIFE Helsinki Institute of Life Science is a new institute established in 2017 that supports high quality life science research across the University of Helsinki campuses and faculties. HiLIFE builds on existing strengths and new recruits and partnerships to create an attractive international environment for researchers to solve grand challenges in health, food, and environment. HiLIFE coordinates research infrastructures in life sciences and provides research-based interdisciplinary training.
