Maya Abee

Volunteer Programs Coordinator at The Huntington

Maya Abee has extensive work experience in various roles within the arts, cultural, and hospitality sectors.

In 2017, Maya worked as a Media Archivist Intern at ECHO PARK FILM CENTER, where they watched and catalogued the 16mm film library and organized Youth Media Classes materials.

From 2018 to 2018, Maya interned at Plaza de la Raza Cultural Center for Arts and Education as a School of Visual and Performing Arts Intern. Maya assisted with grant applications, day-to-day operations, Summer Day Camp, and managed Plaza De La Raza's social media.

From 2019 to 2019, Maya interned at the Autry Museum of the American West as a Curatorial Intern. Maya conducted research for upcoming exhibits and focused on the socio-cultural aspects of fashion in the American West.

Starting in 2019 until 2020, Maya worked at KZSC Santa Cruz as a Radio Disc Jockey and Jazz and Blues Coordinator. Maya managed the Jazz & Blues genre department, collaborated with labels and distributors, and taught students about their position and community involvement.

From 2020 to 2020, Maya worked remotely as a Programs Intern at the Museum Of Neon Art. Maya curated self-guided neon walking tours, conducted community-based research on Los Angeles signage, and assisted in cataloguing museum collections of neon tubing.

Maya then worked as a Barista at LAMILL COFFEE INC from 2021 to 2022, and Visitor Services and Gallery Educator at the Museum Of Neon Art from 2021 to present.

Currently, Maya is a Visitor Engagement Associate at The Huntington, starting in 2022.

Maya Abee attended the University of California, Santa Cruz from 2016 to 2019, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology.
