Maarten de Groot began their work experience in 2011 as an Online Marketeer at Storm Digital (now Accenture Interactive), where they managed online campaigns for various clients. Maarten then worked at Energiewacht Groep (now Energiewacht) from 2012 to 2017, initially as a Marketeer and later in a strategic and operational capacity. During their time at Energiewacht, they worked on marketing strategy, campaign development and management, website optimization, social media management, and branding. Since 2017, Maarten has been the Manager of Marketing & Communication at GroenLeven, where they oversee the brand and is responsible for marketing, communication, PR, spokesperson duties, and sponsorships. Maarten also provides strategic advice on public affairs.

Maarten de Groot started their education in 2005 at NHL Hogeschool, where they studied HBO Communicatie. Maarten completed their studies in 2009. In 2009, they continued their education at the University of Groningen, specializing in Communicatie- en Informatiewetenschappen. Maarten completed this program in 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Maarten de Groot has obtained several certifications. Maarten is a Google Adwords Qualified Individual and a Google Analytics Qualified Individual. Maarten has also obtained the NIMA Consumentenmarketing B1 certification from the NIMA Nederlands Instituut voor Marketing. Specific dates for when they obtained these certifications are not available.
