Sr. Mechanisms Engineer at Hermeus

Joey Sparta has a diverse work experience in the field of aerospace engineering. Joey started their career as an AIAA Design-Build-Fly participant at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2014. In 2015, they worked as a Propulsion Engineering Intern at United Launch Alliance, where they redesigned flow control panels to improve launch pad operations. Joey then interned at NASA in 2016, first as a Propulsion Systems Intern and later as a Flight Operations Intern.

In 2017, Joey participated in the Caltech Space Challenge, a student space mission design competition, and was selected to design Lunarport, a station for extracting resources from the moon's south pole. Joey also gained experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Georgia Tech, working on concept studies for an Antarctic mission and advancing aerodynamic models of parachutes for planetary descent applications.

Joey's work in the field of aerospace continued at NASA, where they served as a Robotics Intern in 2017, working on the Resource Prospector mission. Joey then joined Honeybee Robotics in 2018, starting as a Project Engineering Intern before progressing to the positions of Project Engineer I and Project Engineer II. In these roles, they were involved in the design and analysis of various systems for missions such as Dragonfly and Mars 2020.

Joey's most recent position was at SpaceX, where they worked as a Mechanical Engineer on the Crew Starship project from 2021 to 2022. Joey is currently employed at Hermeus as a Mechanical Systems Engineer, starting in 2023.

Joey Sparta attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2012 to 2017, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.
