Philip Lakin

Major Philip Lakin currently serves as the Law Enforcement Operations Bureau commander. He began his career in 1989 as a police officer for the City of Somerville, Massachusetts Housing Authority. In 2002, Major Lakin attained Florida law enforcement certification at the Southeastern Public Safety Institute in St. Petersburg. He is a 19-year veteran of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, beginning his service in 2002 as a patrol deputy and further serving as a field training officer, property crimes detective, Major Case detective, District Two Patrol sergeant, Major Case CAP’s sergeant, night watch commander, District One commander, District Two commander, Professional Standards commander, Judicial Services Bureau captain and Patrol Division commander. Major Lakin is a graduate of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations program, the FBI-Leeda Executive Leadership Institute and a 2022 graduate of the Southeast Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course. He has an associate’s degree in criminal justice from St. Petersburg College and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in public safety administration. Current or recent affiliations include the Florida Homicide Investigator’s Association, Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Hernando County-Board of Directors, the Community Health Improvement Planning Partnership Board, the Hernando County Community Alliance Executive Roundtable and he also sits on the board of directors for Mid Florida Community Services.
