James Powell

Technical Sound Designer at Hexany Audio

James Powell is a technical sound designer who currently works at Hexany Audio. Prior to Hexany Audio, James worked at Games for Love as the audio director. James was responsible for defining and communicating the audio aesthetic of a massive VR project while managing a team of sound designers, composers, and voice over artists in coordination with narrative teams, script writers, and team leaders. James has also worked at xSCAPE Games as a technical sound designer and Unity developer. There, they were responsible for audio branding and design for all linear media and xSCAPE applications. James also developed systems in Wwise and Unity that respond to telemetry from IMU sensors equipped on RC cars, resulting in dynamically controlled audio by real world, physical movement of an RC car in “Real-Life Mario Kart.” Lastly, James has also worked on audio solutions for XR and 360 film at Vio Audio.

James Powell completed a BS in Music Industry with a Music Technology Emphasis from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. James also has certification from Udemy in Lua Programming and Game Development as well as Python Game Development with Python 3 & Pygame. In addition, they have certification from GameDev.tv in Unreal VR Dev: Make VR Experiences with Unreal Engine in C++.
