Structural Design Engineer at H&H

David Derks has a diverse work experience in the field of structural engineering. David is currently working as a Structural Design Engineer at Hardesty & Hanover, LLC, where they provide design, inspection, and load ratings for fixed and movable structures in the Midwest and East Coast. Prior to this, David worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Purdue University, where they conducted research on post-tensioned concrete bridge girders and in-service bridge beam rehabilitation. David also gained hands-on experience as a Structures Design Intern at BNSF Railway, where they worked on bridge designs and learned about regulations and guidelines. David's research experience at Purdue University includes projects on prestress box girder research, reinforcement variations in splice regions, and corrosive decay of prestress strands. David also worked as an Engineering Intern and R&D Lab Intern at Ruskin, where they gained practical experience in programming and project management.

David Derks completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures from Purdue University, where they studied from 2015 to 2019. David went on to pursue a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University - The Graduate School, which they completed in 2021.

In terms of additional certifications, David obtained several qualifications. In 2019, they earned the Civil Engineer in Training certification from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. In 2022, they obtained the OSHA 10-Hour certification from the OSHA Safety Training Institute and the ERailSafe System Badge - Contractor from eRailSafe. David also received the FECR RWP certification from the Florida East Coast Railway in 2022.

In 2023, David acquired multiple certifications, including the 250 Contractor Safety Orientation from BNSF Railway, the 49 CFR 214 Part C: RWP from RailPros, the FRA Bridge Worker Fall Protection from RailPros, and the NS RWP for Railroad Contractors from Norfolk Southern Corporation. These certifications showcase their commitment to safety and regulation adherence in the railway industry.

Furthermore, David obtained the Boating Safety Education Card from the Missouri State Water Patrol in 2011, indicating their knowledge and adherence to safety protocols in water-related activities.
