Karen L. Hanlon

Ms. Hanlon is responsible for administering the corporation's financial and administrative activities as Highmark Health continues to grow its health care payer and provider businesses as well as its national network of subsidiaries and diversified businesses. Ms. Hanlon oversees all of the corporation's financial activities including financial accounting and reporting, treasury, tax planning and compliance, financial planning and analysis, actuarial and enterprise risk management, and corporate real estate and administrative services.

A certified public accountant with more than 20 years of finance experience, Ms. Hanlon began her career in public accounting at KPMG Peat Marwick prior to joining Highmark in 1997. In her career at Highmark, Karen has held several positions within the finance division before becoming the chief financial officer and treasurer of Highmark Health, reporting directly to Highmark Health's chief executive officer.

Ms. Hanlon sits on the board of several Highmark Health subsidiaries and affiliates including Penn State Health and Gateway Health Plan. She also sits on the board and is treasurer of Leadership Pittsburgh. Ms. Hanlon is a certified public accountant in Pennsylvania and has been a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants for over 15 years.

Ms. Hanlon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Grove City College.
