Alison Lightbown

Alison Lightbown has a diverse work experience in the field of education and learning in cultural institutions. Alison started their career at the Victoria and Albert Museum as a Gallery Education Officer and Education Administrator, where they organized family and adult programs and provided administrative support to formal learning programs. Alison then moved on to the Barbican Centre, where they worked as an Education Coordinator, co-organizing programs in film, theater, dance, music, and visual arts for various audiences.

From there, they joined the Geffrye Museum as the Head of Learning and Engagement, overseeing the development and delivery of innovative learning and community participation programs. Alison also played a role in the strategic development of the museum. At the UCL Institute of Archaeology, they worked as an Honorary Lecturer, project managing a partnership between UCL and the Geffrye Museum.

Most recently, Alison has been working at Historic Royal Palaces, first as the Head of Explorer Programs, where they focused on providing learning opportunities for children and their families and teachers. Alison then took on the role of Head of Schools and Communities, responsible for the award-winning school and community programs across multiple sites, including Hillsborough Castle and Gardens in Northern Ireland. Overall, Alison's work experience highlights their expertise in educational program development and community engagement in cultural institutions.

From 1993 to 1994, they attended the University of Derby, where they pursued a Foundation degree in Art and Design.

Subsequently, from 1994 to 1997, they enrolled at the University of Leeds and earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in the field of History of Art.

Finally, from 1998 to 2000, they attended the University of Leicester, where they obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Museum Studies.
