Maxwell Coar, PhD, PE, is a Structural Engineer at HNTB with over four years of experience in bridge structures and an additional two years in building structures and mechanical engineering. Prior to this role, Maxwell completed a PhD at Princeton University, focusing on disaster mitigation and structural response to earthquakes, with a dissertation on water network performance following earthquakes. Maxwell has held various teaching and research positions, including McGraw Teaching Fellow and Graduate Teaching Assistant, as well as an internship at LERA Consulting Structural Engineers where a Python-based application for automating structural designs was developed. With a strong academic background from both Princeton University and Duke University, Maxwell's research interests include community resilience, fire spread/suppression modeling, and structural health monitoring.
