Taru Spronken

Attorney, General Punishment at Hoge Raad der Nederlanden

Taru Spronken is an accomplished legal professional with extensive experience in both advocacy and academia. Since September 2013, Taru has served as Advocate General at the Hoge Raad der Nederlanden. Prior to this role, Taru was a Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at Maastricht University from September 1987 to June 2021, where also acted as a defence counsel and lecturer. Taru began the legal career as an Advocate at Advocatencollectief Maastricht from September 1979 to December 1982, and then continued at Advocatencollectief Wyck from January 1983 to August 1987. Taru holds an LLM degree in Law from Utrecht University, completed in 1979.
