James Ryu currently serves as General Counsel at the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA), overseeing legal services to support the organization's mission of promoting a fair marketplace for new home buyers. In this role, James delivers corporate and governance advice, supervises the regulatory enforcement program, and provides corporate/commercial support. Prior to joining HCRA in May 2023, James held various senior roles at Advocis from 2011 to May 2023, including Vice-President, Advocacy and General Counsel, where efforts focused on national advocacy for members within the insurance, securities, and pensions sectors. James also has experience as a Senior Director and Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure, and as an Associate at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP. James holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and a B.Com. in Commerce and Finance with a major in Economics from the University of Toronto - Victoria University.
