James Boffin

Senior Data Scientist at Homeprotect Home Insurance

James Boffin's work experience begins in 2010 with a summer scholarship at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, where they worked as a Linguistics Researcher. In this role, they produced a grammatical analysis and multimedia dictionary of Mithaka, an endangered Aboriginal language.

In 2012, Boffin joined ORH as an OR Analyst. Here, they worked as a management consultant for resource planning of fire and ambulance services in the UK, Canada, and Australia. Their responsibilities included using machine learning models, GIS mapping software, and seasonal rosters to find optimal geographic locations and meet emergency response targets.

Moving on to The AA in 2014, Boffin worked as a Data Scientist until 2017. At The AA, they utilized their analytical skills to contribute to data-driven insights.

After leaving The AA, Boffin joined Aviva in 2017 as a Data Scientist. James stayed with the company until 2022 and was responsible for leveraging data to generate insights and support decision-making.

Currently, in 2022, Boffin holds the position of Senior Data Scientist at Homeprotect Home Insurance.

James Boffin completed their education in a chronological order. James first obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (BSc) degree in Mathematics and Linguistics from The University of Western Australia, which they attended from 2008 to 2009. James then pursued a Master of Mathematics (MMath) degree in Mathematics at the University of Bath, which they completed from 2006 to 2007. Later, they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Operational Research with Energy from The University of Edinburgh, which they attended from 2010 to 2011.

In addition to their formal education, James also acquired several certifications. In November 2016, they completed OBIEE 12c Training at Rittman Mead. In July 2014, they obtained certifications in Introduction to R, Statistical Inference, Data Scientist's Toolbox, Exploratory Data Analysis, Getting and Cleaning Data, Reproducible Research, and R Programming, all from Coursera. In May 2014, they completed SIMUL8 Training at SIMUL8 Corporation.
