Thomas Heaton is an accomplished journalist with extensive experience in agricultural reporting, climate change, and current affairs in the Pacific. Currently serving as a reporter for Honolulu Civil Beat since August 2021, Thomas focuses on the Hawaii Grown project. Previous roles include Li Center for Global Journalism Fellow, communications consultant for the United Nations Population Fund, and assistant senior sub-editor at The Kathmandu Post. Thomas has also worked with various media outlets, such as The Otago Daily Times and Fairfax Media, covering diverse topics from food trends to social issues. Thomas holds a Master of Arts in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Otago, alongside several other journalism-related qualifications.
