We are looking for a Senior Game Designer focusing on Enemy and Boss design for our next big game!

THE JOB

As the Senior Game Designer focussing on enemies design with the talented and passionate team behind RETURNAL you will work closely with a team of Artists, Programmers, Animators & Designers to help drive the next evolution of Housemarque games. 

It will be your role to ensure the highest quality design and implementation of enemies of the game, and champion the design and creative vision of the project.

What will your day-to-day look like?

At Housemarque you will be responsible for designing, prototyping and implementing enemies for a AAA Action game from inception to the finished, fully-fledged opponents for the player to overcome. You will work directly with the Directors, Leads and fellow Designers and Programmers to ensure that the enemies content of the game is of highest possible quality. You will also work on creating and improving the pipelines and processes so the content creation is as fluid as possible.

You will collaborate with Programmers who will implement the behaviors you have designed, and Level Designers who create the environments for the enemies to ensure combat encounters are as exciting, innovative and creative as possible.

You will collaborate with external developers within the SIE framework, review their work, and give them feedback and guidance so that their work aligns with the vision of the game.

You will also work with Animators and VFX Artists so the signs and feedback as well as combat animations communicate the enemy behavior to the players as clearly as possible.

What will help you to be successful in this role?

  • At least one shipped AAA game in a designer role

  • Excellent skills and knowledge of level design and enemy design

  • Passion for action games

  • Passion for enemy and boss design

  • Team player, not just in principle but also in practise

  • Believing communication is the best way to minimize conflicts

  • Proficient in the use of Unreal Engine

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

  • Strong prototyping skills

  • Bravery to tackle difficult design problems

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Helsinki, Finland. Please note that due to our Summer Holiday Break in July, we will begin processing applications in August.
