SummaryAn MEP Project Associate provides assistance to project managers on mid-scale to large-scale and/or complex projects. A MEP Project Associate may lead small to mid-scale projects under the supervision of a Project Manager/Studio Director.  An MEP Project Associate provides the technical design of projects and exercises independent judgment, but receives guidance on complex details or issues. Assignments may include higher level work for training/development purposes.

1-5 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to various project types; heating plants, cooling plants, re-pipes, HVAC projects, sprinkler, forensic investigation and interior alterations, etc.
  • Plan and develop projects of small to medium scale scope and works under direct supervision.  Responsible for the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to assure the most efficient and cost effective execution of assigned project
  • Execute and/or assist on multiple projects in all project phases, including Investigation, Budget Estimating, Contract Document Preparation, Bidding and Negotiation, Municipal Filing, Construction Administration, and Close-out within project budget
  • Prepare and/or oversee preparation of project documents, including but not limited to; meeting minutes, field reports, investigation reports, cost estimates, project specifications, construction drawings in AutoCAD, and hand sketches
  • Write and present technical letters and reports in clear articulate language
  • Create new drawings and modify existing drawings in AutoCAD with speed and efficiency 
  • Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Maintain positive client relationship.  Interact with clients and contractors. Attend meetings with clients, contractors, and consultants at regular intervals
  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of a project including; investigation, evaluation and recommendation for design solution.  Independently make decisions on architectural design problems and methods
  • Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures
  • Perform building site inspections
  • From the ground, the roof, from lifts, and from supported (pipe frame) scaffolding
  • From the basement, cellar, crawl space, and similar sub-grade, limited clearance and / or limited light spaces
  • Enforce quality control with contractor
  • Ensure project specifications and drawings are being adhered to. Alert Project Manager and/or Senior Manager of discrepancies
  • Anticipate and trouble-shoot project-specific problems and participate in developing and implementing solution
  • Keep current on building codes governing New York City. Awareness of historic building codes
  • Navigate the public review process and regulatory agencies governing New York City for project filings
  • Actively participate in a teamwork environment
  • Effectively manage time to perform work duties in a fast-paced environment
  • A Project Associate can expect to be “in the field” between 25% - 75% of their time during any given week
