Bertrand Fonji

Bertrand Fonji, MD, MBA, FACS has a diverse work experience in the medical and consulting fields. Bertrand is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Abjure Health Inc. since October 2021. Prior to this, they held the position of Chief of Surgery at Howard Memorial Hospital starting from January 2023.

Dr. Fonji also worked as a Medical Consultant at Intuitive from January 2020 onwards. Bertrand has experience in the finance industry as well, having worked as a Fund Manager at Spakeh Capital LLC from September 2021 to September 2022.

In terms of their medical career, Dr. Fonji has served as a General Surgeon at multiple healthcare institutions. Bertrand worked at TempSurg from November 2016 to December 2021 and at Baptist Health from January 2019 to November 2021. Bertrand also gained experience as a General Surgeon at Orlando Health from January 2015 to October 2016, at Lee Health from June 2013 to November 2014, and at Baptist Health System KY & IN from September 2010 to April 2013.

Bertrand Fonji, MD, MBA, FACS, completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry at The City College of New York from 1997 to 2001. Bertrand then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Downstate Health Sciences University from 2001 to 2005.

Following their medical education, Dr. Fonji completed a General Surgery Internship at Downstate Health Sciences University from 2005 to 2006. Bertrand then pursued further specialization in General Surgery by completing the General Surgery Residency Program at Orlando Health from 2006 to 2010.

In terms of additional certifications, Dr. Fonji obtained their Board of Certification in Surgery from the American Board of Surgery in October 2010. Bertrand also obtained membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives in August 2020.

Dr. Fonji furthered their education by pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Financial Businesses at The Johns Hopkins University - Carey Business School from 2019 to 2020. Bertrand then completed an Executive Certificate in Organizational Leadership at Harvard Business School Executive Education from 2020 to 2021.

Besides, Dr. Fonji obtained two certifications related to investments, including Investment Advisor Representative (Qualified) and Series 65, from FINRA in February 2021.

In terms of language proficiency, Dr. Fonji achieved a CEFR Level B2 in Spanish Language through language immersion programs at Colombia Immersion in 2017 and Habla Ya Spanish School in Panama in 2013.
