Matthew Borselli

Director of Materials and Microsystems Laboratory at HRL Laboratories

Matthew Borselli has an extensive work experience in the field of applied physics and engineering. Matthew started their career as a Seeker Design Intern at Raytheon Missile Systems in 1999. In 2000, they worked as an Optoelectronics Engineer at Zetetic Institute and simultaneously as an Applied Physics Fellow at HRL Laboratories LLC. Matthew then pursued their PhD in Applied Physics at the California Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2006.

After completing their PhD, Borselli joined Xponent Photonics in 2006 as a Senior Product Development Engineer. Matthew quickly advanced to become the lead engineer for the company's PLC chips, where they oversaw chip quality and next-generation designs. Borselli also managed critical failure analysis efforts and led an engineering team.

In 2007, Borselli returned to HRL Laboratories LLC, initially as a Research Staff Physicist and later as a Senior Research Scientist from 2010 to 2013. Matthew joined HRL Laboratories again in 2014 as a Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist until 2018.

Since 2018, Borselli has been working as the Manager of the Device Technologies Department and the Director of the Materials and Microsystems Laboratory at HRL Laboratories LLC.

Matthew Borselli completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics with Honors from the University of Arizona, where they maintained a GPA of 4.0/4.0 from 1997 to 2001. Following this, they pursued a doctoral degree in Applied Physics at Caltech from 2002 to 2006, achieving a remarkable GPA of 4.1/4.0 during their time there.
