Teresa Cornelius has extensive work experience in the healthcare industry. Teresa began their career as a Registered Nurse at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Highland in 2006 and worked in various roles such as Charge Nurse, Inpatient Nurse Manager, and Director of Clinical Operations. In 2017, they became the Chief Nursing Officer at the same hospital. In 2020, they transitioned to HSHS Holy Family Hospital, where they also served as the Chief Nursing Officer. Additionally, Teresa is currently the Chief Operating Officer at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Highland.

Teresa Cornelius began their education journey in 2004 at Kaskaskia College, where they obtained an Associate's degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse in 2006. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor's degree at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville from 2006 to 2009, majoring in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse. Continuing their academic pursuits, they enrolled at McKendree University between 2016 and 2019 and completed their Master's degree in Nursing Administration. Currently, from 2021 to 2023, Teresa is studying at McKendree University again, working towards their Doctorate of Nursing Practice with a focus on Ethical Leadership.
