Maria Alexiadis OAM serves as a Senior Research Assistant at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research since May 2001, coordinating multidisciplinary research on rare tumours, managing patient and researcher relationships, and overseeing the GCT tumour bank while mentoring future research leaders. With a distinguished background as a State and National Karate Athlete from January 1997 to February 2022, Maria boasts over 10 national championships and experience competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifier, providing insights into elite athlete needs and performance strategies. Additionally, in various coaching roles, including Lead Coach and Female Athlete Development Coordinator, Maria has advanced female participation in karate through high-performance programs and workshops. As an Executive Board Member, Maria facilitated strategic planning and governance while securing funding to enhance grassroots karate and promote the sport nationally. Maria holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from La Trobe University.
