Jean-Paul Marthoz

Deputy Chair, Advisory Committee Of The Europe And Central Asia Division at Human Rights Watch

Jean-Paul Marthoz is an experienced editorial coordinator at the Council of Europe's Platform for Journalists Safety since January 2021. In addition, Marthoz serves as the deputy chair of the advisory committee for Human Rights Watch's Europe and Central Asia division, a role held since January 2011. As a foreign affairs columnist for Le Soir since 2005, Marthoz has contributed to leading discussions on global issues. Previous experience includes serving as Europe correspondent for the Committee to Protect Journalists from 2009 to 2016, where Marthoz represented the organization in various European intergovernmental institutions. Academic contributions were made as a visiting professor at UCL from 2000 to 2022 and as a guest professor at Ihecs - Haute Ecole Gallilee from 2000 to 2011. Marthoz has held various editorial and advisory roles, notably as associate editor at Europe's World and senior adviser at Institut Panos Paris. Marthoz's educational background includes a Master's degree from ISTI in Brussels and a foundational education at Collège de Saint Roch.
