J. Greg Smith has worked in the field of program and project management since 1985. J. Greg began their career at NASA as a Program Control Lead. In 1998, they joined Humphreys & Associates, Inc. as the Vice President of Consulting Services, managing the efforts of the company's consultants. In 2002, they were hired as a Program Control Manager at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems. In 2007, they became the Program Planning & Control Senior Manager at L-3 Communications, directing a large project controls and scheduling team of over 60 employees. In 2009, they took on the role of Project Chair for the 2nd Edition PMI EVM Global Standard Development at the Project Management Institute.

J. Greg Smith has a diverse educational background, starting with a BS in Psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University, which they obtained from 1979-1983. J. Greg then pursued an MS in Industrial Psychology from Texas A&M University from 1983-1985. Following that, they obtained an MBA in Management from University of Houston-Clear Lake from 1985-1990. Additionally, Smith has two certifications: Program Management Level III from Defense Acquisition University obtained in August 2005, and Earned Value Professional from AACE International obtained in September 2014.
