Position Overview: 

A best-in-class electrical contractor is searching for an experienced Mechanic to be part of our team.  You will assemble, maintain, and repair machinery and vehicles in this role. This position is also responsible for ensuring the functionality and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems.

Base Location/Travel Requirements:

Our mechanics typically do not work within a repair facility; you will work as an over-the-road mechanic and make repairs in all kinds of weather.  The typical work week could exceed forty hours. Extra hours may be required for emergency repairs. IB Abel’s work is 24 hours per day, seven days per week, all year long, so extensive hours to serve our internal and external customers better may be necessary.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Drive and operate a mechanic’s truck equipped with a crane, welder, and compressor.

  • Build and assemble machines and/or mechanical components according to OEM standards.

  • Maintain, repair, rebuild, and troubleshoot a wide variety of construction equipment, including but not limited to skid steers, excavators, dozers, trucks, line equipment, bucket trucks, diggers, and other equipment in a work site environment.

  • Maintain, repair, and modify construction equipment, propulsion, and hydraulic systems, as well as on-site fabrication.

  • Inspects, monitors, and performs maintenance on job site equipment to address potential problems and report issues to fleet coordinators.

  • Assist in mobilizing equipment for repair or service when required.

  • Inspect machines, engines, transmissions, etc.

  • Run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues with equipment.

  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.

  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them promptly.

  • Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems.

  • Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.

  • Welding as necessary.

  • When necessary, undertake any other business duties assigned to support operations.

IB Abel’s mechanics repair, maintain, and rebuild components that power trucks, equipment, other vehicles, and hydraulic systems. To repair system components and hydraulic systems, mechanics run diagnostic tests to find the source(s) of the problem(s), then repair, remove, and replace faulty parts. Mechanics may also perform preventative maintenance, such as checking water-cooling systems, and clean air/oil filters, to prevent break downs. Mechanics will remove, rebuild, and replace certain parts as necessary. 

Education, Skills, Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be PA State Certified with inspection license and number.
  • Minimum seven (7)  years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
  • A DOT Medical Card is required. Class A/B Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
  • Ability to type; basic data entry.
  • Mechanic experience and/or training.
  • Significant welding experience is required.

Other:

  • Must be able to present acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorizations per the Federal I-9 requirement.

Desired:

  • Hydraulic Certification is a plus, or a Trade School Certification(s)

  • Familiar with reading electrical, hydraulic, and engineering schematics.
