Karim Ben M'Barek

Research Scientist at I-Stem

Karim Ben M'barek is a research scientist at I-Stem since December 2012, focusing on the development of cell-based therapeutic alternatives for retinal degenerative disorders and medical devices for investigational medicinal products. Previously, Karim held a postdoctoral position where the work involved creating a tissue-engineered product derived from human embryonic stem cells for clinical applications and advancing surgical techniques for implantation in rat models. Collaborating with I-Stem at the Institut de la Vision from January 2013 to December 2017, Karim conducted preclinical validation of retinal bio-engineered tissues. Karim completed a PhD in neuroscience and cell biology at Paris-Sud University, exploring post-translational modifications in Huntington disease, after obtaining a master's degree in neuroscience from Université Paris Cité. Initial training included a master's internship at Commissariat à l'énergie atomique, focusing on cellular models for studying brain progenitor cell behavior.
