Alexei Czeskis

Alexei Czeskis has extensive work experience in the field of computer security and engineering. Alexei most recently held the position of SVP of Engineering at ID.me starting in July 2022. Prior to that, they were the VP of Engineering at the same company from August 2021 to July 2022.

Before joining ID.me, Alexei worked at Google for several years. From July 2020 to July 2021, they served as a Staff Software Engineer, managing and leading teams responsible for Google Account authentication technologies. Alexei'srole included overseeing areas such as sign-in, account recovery, two-step verification, and Google Advanced Protection Program. From May 2017 to July 2020, they held the position of Staff Software Engineer (Security & Authentication), and from May 2015 to May 2017, they were a Senior Software Engineer in the same domain. Alexei began their time at Google as a Software Engineer III (Security & Authentication) from September 2013 to May 2015.

Before joining Google, Alexei pursued a Ph.D. in Computer Science with a focus on security at the University of Washington from May 2007 to September 2013. During their time there, they conducted research on various aspects of authentication, including resource-constrained embedded devices, online transactions, and user-facing security systems.

Alexei also gained internship experience at major companies. Alexei interned at Google in 2012, Microsoft in 2011, Amazon.com in 2007, and Eli Lilly and Company in 2006. These internships allowed him to gain further knowledge and experience in the fields of infrastructure security, security research, transaction risk management, and bioinformatics.

Alexei Czeskis earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Purdue University from 2003 to 2007. Alexei then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington between 2007 and 2009. Later, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science at the University of Washington from 2009 to 2013.
