Marc Shotland is the interim Co-CEO and Director of the Research, Evaluation and Data (RED) Team Technical Team at IDinsight, based in the US.
Marc leads the RED Team whose role it is to ensure that IDinsight upholds the highest-quality research monitoring and evaluation standards, develops top-notch monitoring and evaluation infrastructure and data-driven solutions, and builds evaluation capacity–both internally and externally. Marc’s research focuses on primary and secondary school education, monitoring and evaluation systems, and scaling up effective interventions. Marc brings over 20 years of experience implementing impact evaluations of development programs and teaching others how to do so as well.
Prior to joining IDinsight, Marc was the Director of Research and Training at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, where he developed much of the organization’s research infrastructure and training content on impact evaluations. He built J-PAL’s international capacity building team, which have directly trained tens of thousands of participants of on impact evaluation. He also developed and produced the online course, Designing and Running Randomized Evaluations (JPAL102x), as part of the MIT’s Department of Economics’ MicroMasters credential in Data, Economics, and Development Policy, including content on Evaluation design, measurement, data collection, data management, data security, research transparency and project management.
Marc holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Williams College and a Master in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
