Henk-Jan Brinkman serves as the Permanent Observer of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) to the United Nations in New York since July 2022. Prior to this role, a notable tenure at the United Nations from June 2010 to June 2022 included the position of Chief of Peacebuilding Strategy and Partnerships, overseeing policy formulation and partnerships for peacebuilding efforts. Brinkman's experience also encompasses a significant role at the World Food Programme, where positions such as Sr Adviser for Economic Policy and Chief Food Security Policy and Markets were held, contributing to critical analyses and publications on food security. Earlier career highlights include advising Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Deputy Secretary-General Louise Frechette on various economic issues from August 1989 to August 2006. Brinkman holds multiple academic degrees in Economics, including a PhD from The New School, and has a foundational background in economic history from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
