Interim Editor In Chief, IEEE Intelligent Systems at IEEE Computer Society

San Murugesan has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. SAN has held various roles in different organizations throughout their career. SAN started their professional journey in 1973 at ISRO Satellite Center, Bangalore, where they worked as a Senior Engineer and later became the Deputy Division Head. Following their time at ISRO, they joined the University of Western Sydney in 1993 as an Associate Professor and worked there until 2002. SAN then moved to Southern Cross University, where they served as a Professor and Head of School from 2002 to 2007. In 2005, they also took on the role of Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Sydney. In 2007, they transitioned to BRITE Professional Services as the Director and Principal Consultant. In 2014, they joined the IEEE Computer Society as the Editor in Chief of IEEE IT Professional until 2017. SAN also became a Golden Core Member of the IEEE Computer Society during their time there. In 2018, they became a member of the Advisory Board of IEEE IT Professional magazine. In 2020, they joined IEEE and became a Life Senior Member. Then in 2022, they joined IEEE Computer Society as the Interim Editor in Chief of IEEE Intelligent Systems and served as a Member of the Board of Governors and Chair of the Magazines Operations Committee. Lastly, in 2023, they became a member of the IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Coordinating IEEE's Response to Climate Change.

San Murugesan completed a PhD in Computers and Automation at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) from 1982 to 1985. Prior to that, they pursued an MTech in Electronics Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras between 1971 and 1973. SAN'seducation journey started at PSG College of Technology, where they obtained a BE (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from 1965 to 1971.
