Amy Catron

Associate Principal Cello at Illinois Symphony Orchestra

Amy Catron has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Amy has worked as an Assistant Teaching Professor at Mississippi State University since 2023. Amy has also worked as an Associate Principal Cello at the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, starting in 2000. Amy served as a Suzuki Strings Instructor at Johns Hill Magnet School in Decatur Public Schools from 2022 to 2023. Amy has held the position of Former Principal Cellist at Sinfonia da Camera since 2001 and was also a Former Instructor and String Area Coordinator at Millikin University from 2000 to 2023. Additionally, they worked as a Core Cello player at Artis—Naples from 1996 to 2003.

Amy Catron completed their Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music. Amy then went on to obtain a Master of Music degree from the University of Akron. Currently, they are pursuing a DMA degree in Music Education at Boston University, which they expect to complete in 2023. In addition to their degrees, they have obtained certifications in DMA Music Education from Boston University, Human Subjects Protection Training with a focus on Social and Behavioral Studies from CITI Program, and Teacher Of Music Comprehensive K-12 from the University of West Florida. Amy has also received Suzuki Training in Cello Books 1-6, 8-10, as well as teaching strategies from the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
