Maria Izabel Cavassim Alves

Maria Izabel Cavassim Alves is a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Illumina, specializing in the development of genomic applications and workflows on the Illumina Connect Analytics Cloud Platform while providing bioinformatics support to research and development. Previously, at the University of California, Los Angeles, as a Collaboratory Fellow, Maria provided computational research support and trained researchers in bioinformatics, R, and population genetics. Maria also has experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Population Genetics, a Ph.D. student at Aarhus University, and a Visiting Research Scholar at Columbia University, focusing on the evolution of PRDM9. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Computer Science, a Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics, and Bachelor's Degrees in Agronomy and Biotechnology.
