Robert De Fer has a diverse and extensive work experience primarily with IBM. Robert began their career with IBM in 1988, holding multiple financial analyst and financial management roles until 1993. From 1994 to 1999, they worked as a Principal/Senior Consultant in IBM's Consulting Group. In 2000, they became a Principal in IBM Global Services New Venture Group. From 2001 to 2008, they served in various roles, including Director of Strategy and Operations and Strategy and Operations Manager in the Communications Sector. Robert then transitioned to Director of Operations for Managed Business Process Services Americas. From 2009 to 2014, De Fer became the Vice President of IBM's Strategic Outsourcing Business Line and later held the position of Director of Operations for Strategic Outsourcing North America. In 2015, they were the Vice President of Operations and Shared Services - GTS North America. Before joining IBM, De Fer worked as a consultant and interim Vice President of Finance at Mblox in 2016. Robert currently holds the position of SVP, Strategic Planning at Imagine Communications since 2018.

Robert De Fer attended Northwestern University from 1977 to 1981, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Robert then pursued a law degree at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law from 1981 to 1984, earning a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Later, from 1986 to 1988, De Fer attended Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, where they graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
