Stefan Hesse has a long and varied work experience. In 2021, they began their current role as Managing Director EMEA for Avatour, a remote collaboration platform for site visits. In 2019, they became CFO for fliit. From 2016 to 2020, they were Strategic Advisor and CFO/UK Managing Director for Alkemics, a SaaS-based collaboration platform and global B2B marketplace. From 2012 to 2016, they were an Entrepreneur, Investor and Consultant for a portfolio of SaaS/PaaS, XR, AI, Omni-Channel Retail, Digital Marketing and FMCG. From 2007 to 2017, they were a Board Member and Chair Audit & Risk Com. for GS1 Global Data Excellence Inc., and a Member Supervisory Board and Honorary Lifetime Member for GS1 UK. From 1996 to 2007, they held various roles at METRO AG, including CFO/Director Finance, IT, SCM & E-Commerce for makro Cash & Carry UK, Vice President Financial Planning & Analysis, CFO/Director Finance, IT and Legal for makro Cash & Carry Netherlands, CFO/Director Finance, IT, SCM and Legal for METRO Cash & Carry, and Head of Finance for METRO Cash & Carry Bulgaria. In 1995, they were a Consultant Management Information Systems for BAYER de Espana and a Guest Researcher at the University of Barcelona.

Stefan Hesse has a varied educational background. Stefan completed a METRO Academy in Strategic Marketing and Value Innovation from INSEAD. Stefan also holds a PhD (Dr. rer. oec.) in Applied Database Technologies in Strategic Management from Bergische Universität Wuppertal. Stefan has an MBA (Dipl.-Kfm.) in Business Administration & Economics from Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliche Fakultät der Universität zu Köln, as well as a Chartered Global Management Accountant from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
