Karl Demian

Trustee at Independent Age

Karl is currently the Chief Operating Officer for The Ambulance Staff Charity (TASC) a national charity that supports members of the ambulance community and their families. Prior to joining TASC Karl was Executive Director of Strategy and Operations at Royal Voluntary Service helping to shape the way that it services to older people were delivered through the power of volunteering. During his time at RVS he worked on a number of joint projects and initiatives including the Jo Cox Commission, The Malnutrition Task force and the UK Men’s Shed Movement.

Karl’s early career was in Citizens Advice Bureau were he helped developed money advice services and became manager of Birmingham City Centre Advice Bureau where he developed a keen sense and deep commitment to volunteering. Karl then joined the Legal Services Commission where he helped shape the contractual arrangement for solicitors and barristers as Director of Contract Design and then as Director of Organisational Transformation.

Karl was until recently the Chair of WCS Care Group Ltd an innovative provider of residential care to older people and young adults in the Midlands and during his time as Chair the group achieved the highest proportion of CQC outstanding ratings in the UK for residential care and led the way in the use of technology to improve the lives and experiences of its residents. He is currently Vice Chair and Chair of the Income Generation Board at The Myton Hospices.

Karl is passionate believer in changing the way that older age is viewed by society and in the power of volunteering to make a difference to the lives of older people and to changing the perception of the potential of older people to continue to learn, grow and contribute.
