David Short

Senior Director - Enabling Resources Program at Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)

David Short has a diverse work experience spanning over several roles and industries. David started their career in 1992 as an Engineer in Training at Ontario Hydro. From there, they joined BC Hydro in 1994 and held different positions focused on interconnecting generators to the transmission system and managing review projects.

In 2002, David worked as a Lead Electrical Engineer at Hydrogenics, where they provided technical guidance for power and process control design and designed hydrogen generation plants. David also coordinated with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with electrical codes.

In 2004, David joined the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and held various managerial positions. David managed a team responsible for customer information management, represented IESO in regulatory proceedings, and managed the operation of IESO's controlled grid and administered markets. David also served as a Senior Director, overseeing system integration and capacity market design.

David's expertise was recognized by organizations outside IESO as well. David served on the Planning Committee of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) in 2019.

In addition to their industry experience, David participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program on Energy organized by the U.S. Department of State in 2007.

Overall, David Short has a strong background in the energy industry, with extensive experience in system operations, regulatory matters, and engineering.

David Short attended Queen's University from 1989 to 1992, where they obtained an Engineer's Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. In 1995, they obtained a certification from Professional Engineers Ontario as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
