Jos Vaessen currently serves as the Chief Evaluation Officer and Senior Adviser at the Independent Evaluation Group since September 2025. Previously, Vaessen held the position of Principal Advisor at the Inter-American Development Bank from November 2024 to September 2025 and worked as an Adviser at the Independent Evaluation Group from June 2016 to October 2024. Academic roles include lectureships at Maastricht University, where Vaessen contributed from 2008 to May 2020, and a position as Principal Evaluation Specialist at UNESCO from February 2011 to May 2016. Earlier experiences include research positions at the University of Antwerp, consulting work at Science and Strategy, and research roles at Wageningen University. Vaessen holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Maastricht University and a Master's Degree in Agrarian Development Economics from Wageningen University & Research.
