Steve Tuchman recently retired as director with Lewis Kappes where his practice focused primarily on immigration and nationality issues. Prior to the director role, he served as a managing partner. In addition, he is a past commissioner of the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission, a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, and was awarded the Maynard K. Hine Award for his significant impact on the IUPUI campus. In 2016 he received the LGBTQ+AA Distinguished Alumni Award by the IU LGBTQ+ Alumni Association. He was inducted into the IU Presidents Circle in 2018 and received an IU Bicentennial Medal in 2020.
Tuchman speaks Danish as a second language, was named by the Danish Queen, Her Majesty Margrethe II, as consul in 2004, and has been knighted by Her Majesty to the Order of Dannebrog. In October 2005, Tuchman was appointed by the Mexican secretary of foreign relations to represent the government of Mexico and its consulate in Indianapolis. Tuchman also serves as the dean of the Consular Corps of Indianapolis.
Tuchman is active in the Indianapolis arts community, having served as a commissioner of the Indiana Arts Commission, chairman of the American Cabaret Theatre's board of directors, and having represented clients in the sports and entertainment fields.
