Samar Maalouf

Samar Maalouf has worked in the scientific field since 1997. Samar began their career as a MS. Graduate Student at the American University of Beirut, where they studied the mechanism of action of the anti-oxidant vitamin E in protecting against skin photodamage. Samar then went on to pursue a Ph.D. at The Ohio State University, where they investigated mammary gland inflammation to study the link between inflammation and cancer. After completing their Ph.D., Maalouf became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia University Medical Center, where they researched the effect of aberrant expression of cell adhesion molecules on the immune environment and RAC signaling pathway in the skin of transgenic mice models. In 2010, they moved to Penn State University as a Postdoctoral Associate, where they researched the role of short non-coding RNA (microRNA) in ovarian function and fertility. In 2015, Maalouf began working as a Scientific Consultant at INDIGO Biosciences, INC, and they are currently working there as a Scientist.

Samar Maalouf completed a BSc in Biology from the American University of Beirut in 1997-1994, followed by an MSc. in Biology from the same university in 1997-1999. In 2001-2007, they completed their PhD in Animal Sciences-Inflammatory signals in the mammary epithelium from The Ohio State University.
