Brett Boghigian

VP, Microbial Business Development & Licensing at Indigo

Brett leads business development and licensing for our Microbials business, and was one of Indigo’s first employees.

Brett leads the Microbials Business Development & Licensing team where he’s responsible for relationships, joint agreements, and transactions with academic institutions, as well as small and large industry players. Prior to his current role, Brett has led and built several departments over time, including Product Management, Project Management, Facilities, and Bioprocessing. Of note, Brett led Indigo’s first product launch, a microbial seed treatment for cotton growers in the United States, in 2016.

Prior to Indigo, Brett worked at Axcella Health, a Flagship Pioneering company, where he was part of the founding scientific team (with Indigo co-founder Geoffrey von Maltzahn) and a co-inventor on several key patents. His doctoral research focused on developing novel methods for the production of drugs using microbes.

Brett holds a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University. He completed a Ph.D. in just 3 years with 15 peer-reviewed publications. He is also co-inventor on 10+ granted patents and 30+ patent applications in the US and internationally. He borrows his management philosophy from New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick: "Do Your Job." Originally from Boston’s suburbs, Brett is an avid Boston sports fan, and enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle when not working. Brett lives with his wife Colleen in neighboring Cambridge.
