Founded in 1965, the nonprofit Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is one of the oldest and largest membership associations for industrial design professionals. IDSA has thousands of members in dozens of Professional Chapters, Student Chapters, and Special Interest Sections in the United States and internationally. 

Since 1980, IDSA has produced the annual International Design Excellence Awards® (IDEA), which remains the world’s most rigorous, prestigious, and influential design awards program. Learn more at IDSA.org/IDEA. 

The Society leads National Industrial Design Day initiatives annually on March 5 and hosts annual events such as the International Design Conference and Deep Dives, bringing together some of the biggest names and brightest minds in industrial design and related fields. Additional programming includes the annual IDSA Student Merit Awards (SMA), IDSA Awards, and Education Symposium.

In 2001, IDSA established the Design Foundation: a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to raising awareness of the industrial design profession and providing educational opportunities for students of all ages. Global outreach includes IDSA's designUpdate e-newsletter and INNOVATION, IDSA’s flagship publication. A highly regarded journal within the ID profession, the quarterly print and digital INNOVATION includes the annual Yearbook of Design Excellence, which features IDEA and IDSA Award winners. The Coordination and Administration team at IDSA is responsible for organizing and managing the society's various programs, events, and communications. This includes overseeing professional and student chapters, facilitating annual conferences and awards such as the International Design Excellence Awards and Student Merit Awards, supporting the Design Foundation's initiatives, and ensuring effective communication through newsletters and publications. Their role is critical in maintaining the smooth operation and strategic outreach of IDSA.
