Before joining Sony Mobile, Maurice worked at Sony Ericsson in multiple roles. Maurice was the Head of Business Management for Technical Account Management in EMEA and APAC from 2007 to 2009. Prior to this, they served as a Commodity Manager for Advanced Technology Sourcing, where they focused on early involvement in sourcing advanced technology. Maurice also held the position of Software Sourcing Manager, where they established the new sourcing commodity SW Sourcing.

Maurice began their career at Ericsson Telecommunicatie B.V. where they worked as a Tactical Purchaser. In this role, they were responsible for sourcing contracts with IT suppliers and suppliers of consultancy. Maurice also played a role in the millennium bug project.

Maurice van Tholen pursued their undergraduate education at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University from 1990 to 1997.
