James Neff currently serves as the Deputy Managing Editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer, a position held since June 2016. Previously, James Neff was involved with Investigative Reporters and Editors from 1991 to 2002, serving as a board member and officer, including a tenure as past president. Earlier in James Neff's career, from 1978 to 1987, experience was gained as a reporter and columnist at the Cleveland Plain Dealer. James Neff's educational background includes degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Texas at Austin.
