James McCall

Survey Researcher at Insight Policy Research

James brings more than 5 years of experience as a survey research professional, designing and implementing studies that inform policy and practice and support original research. Drawing on the Tailored Design Method framework, James’ expertise is in survey methodology and developing robust data collection methods aimed at reducing respondent burden and reducing survey error in coverage, sampling, measurement, and nonresponse.

James supports data collection activities on several projects, providing expertise in project management, survey development, recruitment strategies, data collection methods, and data management and analysis. He currently supports the following National Science Foundation (NSF) projects: the 2021 Merit Review Survey of Applicants and Reviewers and NSF No Deadline Survey of Principal Investigators and Reviewers. He also supports two SNAP [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program] projects: SNAP CAPs Challenges and SNAP Risk Assessment for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.

Prior to joining Westat Insight, James was a project manager at the Social & Economic Sciences Research Center at Washington State University, where he helped design and manage multimodal surveys for state agencies, private organizations, and faculty researchers. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Washington State University.
